Results of research on orders Mesotaeniales and Desmidiales of the upper part of the River Rioni basin (West Georgia) are presented. In various water reservoirs of the study area 147 taxa of the above mentioned orders were found. Of them 142 (96,6 %) represent the order Desmidiales and 5 (3,4 %) the order Mesotaeniales. One hundred and fourty-two taxa of the order Desmidiales belong to three families (Desmidiaceae, Closteriaceae, Peniaceae) and 16 genera. The richest are the following genera: Cosmarium Corda ex Ralfs (55), Closterium Nitzsch (33) and Cosmoastrum Pal.-Mordv. ex Pal.-Mordv. (10). The order Mesotaeniales is represented by a single family with three genera.
