Retraction policy
The editorial policy of the journal Algologia regarding retraction (withdrawal of a published article) follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The main purpose of retraction is to ensure the integrity of the information published in the journal by removing texts that contain serious shortcomings or erroneous or unreliable data. Inaccurate data may result from either unintentional errors or deliberate misconduct.
The primary reason for the retraction of an article is a violation of the journal’s ethical principles (including plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, serious errors that call into question the scientific value of the results, or undisclosed conflicts of interest, etc.). Retraction may also be initiated at the request of the author(s) or upon submission by the Editor-in-Chief.
The decision to retract an article is made by the Editorial Board upon the submission of the Editor-in-Chief, which includes information on the grounds for retraction specified in the current rules. The decision is made taking into account the response of the author(s), substantiating their position on the issue (provided that a response is received).
If the author(s) consider it necessary to retract an article, they shall contact the Editorial Board and provide a reasoned explanation for their decision. The Editorial Board responds to the authors and, if grounds for retraction are confirmed, proceeds with the withdrawal of the article.
If the Editorial Board decides to withdraw an article based on its own expertise or information received, it informs the author(s) and expects their response. If no response is received, the Editorial Board reserves the right to proceed with the retraction without considering the author’s opinion. The decision to retract an article is formalized in the official minutes of the Editorial Board meeting.
Once the decision to retract an article has been made, the Editorial Board indicates the reason for retraction (in cases of plagiarism, with reference to the original source) as well as the date of retraction. The article and its description remain on the journal’s website as part of the relevant issue; however, the electronic version of the text is marked “RETRACTED” with the date of retraction. The same mark is applied within the article and in the table of contents of the issue. Information about the retraction is published on the journal’s website.
